What can I help my mentee with?

Adam loved chemistry ever since his studies at the Jan Neruda high school, where he chose enhanced chemistry and physics. From there it was but a little step towards studying pharmaceutics synthesis and production. „I have always loved theoretical chemistry rather than the lab. I was fascinated by pharmaceuticals because they can also be a connection to my passion for biology and medicine.“ He dedicated his international Erasmus at the Braunschweig university to topical pharmaceuticals, which was also the topic of his diploma thesis, that he defended in 2020. After acquiring his Engineer title Adam briefly studied for a doctor, but he could not resist accepting a position in Ferring Pharmaceuticals, where he worked as an automation engineer and a project coordinator.
A turning point in Adam’s life was the decision to leave his PhD studies and the job in Ferring Pharmaceuticals, where he worked for almost a year and a half. He started considering not only job market opportunities, but also his skill set and his life path. „It was a moment of searching. I began thinking not only about a job but also about myself - what my talents and skills are and what I would like to achieve.“ Thanks to a thorough research and attending coaching he discovered his strength in managing. In 2022 he started working in Novartis as a project consultant, connecting interpersonal communication and talent for structuring. Thanks to the diversity of this job Adam acquired a broad overview of the pharmaceutical market in the Czech Republic. In May of 2023 Adam joined a Novartis’ subsidiary firm Sandos, where he continues as a Service Delivery Manager. His responsibility is the complete supervision over excellent delivery of applications for the finance department from external suppliers including the communication between both these entities.
A big motivation for entering the program as a mentor is his experience as a mentee. In his own words, „I had a mentor in this program, and I am where I am today thanks to him. Now I want to give back to the school and mentoring is my passion.“ In addition he remembers his time at UCT with love and pride and likes to come back there. He follows Jan Mühlfeit’s motto: „the happiest people are those who make others happy by doing what they love.“
