About me
Alena studied drug synthesis and manufacturing at the University of Chemistry and Technology, and while still a student, she collaborated with Teva Pharmaceuticals, where she started working after graduation. During her first year, she held several positions in manufacturing, gained an overview of the company, and settled into the position of transfer technologist. After three years of intensive work, during which she handled increasingly difficult projects, she faced burnout. As part of a necessary lifestyle change, she moved to Otava for the summer, where she opened her own water bar and built a system of returnable cups along the entire river. She started the business, communicated with the health authorities, the Vltava River Basin Authority, the tax office, and other institutions, and also acted as an operations manager, hiring temporary workers, etc. "I completely switched gears. I think it's good that people need to take a break sometimes to figure out what they're missing. And after a while, I started to miss pharmacy.“ However, thanks to her new experience, she realized that she enjoyed project management and took a position as a project manager at a consulting firm that deals with drug registrations. Alena currently works at Novartis, where she is responsible for supporting production in the implementation of changes in technological processes so that new procedures can be validated.
On top of all this, Alena started an MBA in Management Soft Skills at the beginning of the pandemic. "I live in constant change, and that gives me the important ability to adapt. There are many things we cannot influence. Sometimes you work on something for three months, and then suddenly someone higher up wants something completely different. That's just the way it is, but you have to take it in stride." Alena sees mentoring as an opportunity to support each other through contact with other people who are similarly minded. According to her, students should be aware that they want to do something extra and be open.

About me
My happiest day as a child was when my kindergarten teacher agreed to let me take a part of the class to our house and I could lend everyone toys and organize the whole thing so that everyone had fun. I organized building of sandcastles in the sandbox and negotiated the use of plastic trucks for construction purposes (instead of wasteful driving). Nothing much has changed. I like to build, bring people and resources together to create higher units that perform new, unexpected work, service or experiences.
I led clubs, work and hobby teams. I work best in a group of up to 10 people, but I also led Psy-High – my 4part, almost a week-long festival-baby in a flooded quarry – with 15 “officers” and 300 volunteers. I prefer to build things out of nothing. In various collectives I have built, among other things: student television, a university counselling centre, a new setup of the university's internal community, a concept of social networks, events, festivals, independent publishing houses – various vinyl’s, cassettes, etc., and last but not least a forest-bound wood crafted settlement and many beautiful places in nature (viewpoints, campsites, spaces, ...). I love photography, my heroes include war photojournalists such as Patrick Chauvel and others.
I have always done many things in parallel. I know what it’s like to be frustrated about not being an expert in anything but being able to do a little bit of everything - and I can assure you that it pays off in the end.
I like history and many other different fields, I enjoy expanding things into a broader/higher framework, I have sensitized myself over the years by looking for overlaps. I will be very happy to search for new perspectives with you, that will show banal things as interesting, complex things as graspable. We can find inspiration in unexpected sources for all dead-ends, from alchemy, through historical warlords to anthropology, technology, ...

About me
My career path has taken me from managing the CTU UCEEB research institute to founding EnviTrail, where, as CTO, I deal with ESG and carbon footprint calculations for small and large clients such as ČSOB, the PPF Group, and Škoda Auto. I have experience in team leadership and complex project management, and my work also requires a broad view of energy, the environment, and the academic world.
For me, mentoring means openly sharing knowledge and experience, but also listening and understanding your goals and challenges. Together, we can explore your career options, work on developing your skills, and create strategies to achieve your academic and professional goals. I approach mentoring with respect and openness, which means that your topics and questions always come first. Whether it's specific advice on energy and sustainability, navigating the academic world, or leading teams, I'm here to help you find your way.
We plan to meet in person regularly, every three to six weeks, depending on what works best for you. I also enjoy working on practical projects or "homework assignments" that can help you learn something about yourself, gain new skills, or learn something new. Outside of the professional world, I enjoy music, skiing, astronomy, and evolutionary biology, which are areas that not only bring me joy but also new perspectives that I can share through mentoring. O mně
David si hned po nástupu do prváku na VŠCHT nabral mnoho mimoškolních aktivit. Jak sám říká, měl tou dobou takovou zvrácenou představu, že studium nestačí, a chtěl zkusit všechno, co ho lákalo. Přihlásil se do studentských spolků IAESTE a ESN a našel si brigádu v personální agentuře. “Přišlo mi prostě důležitý něco dělat, tak jsem si toho nabral dost docela náhodně. Řekl jsem si, že to nějak zvládnu, a když ne, tak to alespoň vyzkouším a budu vědět, co mě baví.” Ze studentských aktivit ho nejvíce bavila činnost v IAESTE, kde se věnoval spolupráci s firmami a organizací veletrhu, ve spolku zůstal tři roky. Zároveň si ale po dokončení prváku na FPBT uvědomil, že ho více lákají jiné obory, a přestoupil na ČVUT, kde studoval ekonomii.
Při studiu pak absolvoval stáž v marketingové agentuře a následně si věci, které se naučil, vyzkoušel v praxi v Alze, kde se věnoval převážně online reklamě. Další roli, kterou si zkusil, byl ambasador v Boston Consulting Group. Organizoval různé eventy, které měly pomoci propagovat firmu mezi studenty. Zároveň s tím začal David pracovat v malém investičním fondu, který vyhledával start-upy, do kterých má smysl investovat. Jednalo se převážně o práci s daty a komunikaci s lidmi ze startupů. Další studentskou pozicí pak byla role koordinátora v oblasti zdravotnictví a financí pro Future Port Prague, technologický festival na pražském Výstavišti. Oblast financí Davida začala bavit, a tak jeho další zkušeností byla nejdříve práce pro Skip Pay a následně pro investiční platformu Fondee, kde strávil 3 roky.
“To, že jsem vystřídal tolik různých prostředí nebylo proto, že bych měl nějakej velkej plán, co všechno se chci naučit. Jako student máš opravdu hodně možností a vyzkoušet je tě stojí jen trochu času. Tak jsem zkoušel, co mě lákalo a kde jsem se mohl naučit něco nového, a díky tomu si uvědomoval, co mě opravdu baví, co mi dává v danou chvíli smysl a kde bych opravdu chtěl pracovat.” V současnosti David pracuje na pozici Business Developera / Delivery Managera ve start-upu grid.online, který se zaměřuje na efektivnější využívání městské logistiky.
Sám zná mentoring z obou stran a říká, že se díky němu posunul na vlastní cestě a naučil se nové věci. Těší se, že bude moci stejným způsobem pomoct svému mentee, navíc rád poznává nové lidi, kteří jsou naladění podobně jako on.

She studied chemistry at the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague, and then focused on theory and molecular modeling in her further studies. During her master's and doctoral studies, she moved from the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences to the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, without changing her research group. She welcomed the move to another workplace with gratitude, as she believes that staying in one place for too long does not bring anything good. She obtained her doctorate in 2007, defending her thesis while expecting her first child.
Instead of a postdoctoral stay, she took two maternity leaves, followed by a short engagement at Charles University. Her path to science was then long and winding, involving managerial work on projects and grants. She left for her postdoctoral stay unusually late, at around the age of 40, taking her whole family with her to the University of Pisa. The stay was beneficial both scientifically and culturally and launched her career at the University of Chemistry and Technology.
Today, she mainly focuses on simulations of ultrafast processes induced by X-ray radiation and collaborates with experimenters who mainly measure on large devices such as synchrotrons and free-electron lasers. In her private life, she enjoys sports and theater.
As a mentor, she would like to share her experiences, especially in the area of non-traditional career paths, and support mentees in their decisions. She herself will be happy to gain new ideas from interactions with mentees.

After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the Faculty of Science of Charles University and studied chemistry, later specializing in theory and molecular modeling. He fondly remembers the years he spent at the Budeč dormitory. He obtained his doctorate while working at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences, during which time he also completed several internships abroad. For example, he regularly spent the autumn months from 2009 to 2011 at the University of Pohang in South Korea, from where he returned to Europe by train. His solo travels across Asia offered him an exceptionally wide range of experiences.

After completing his doctorate and a short internship in France, he joined the Jülich Research Center in Germany as a scholarship holder of the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This gave him access to what was then the most powerful supercomputer in Europe, which slightly influenced his future career. On the other hand, he experienced some disappointment in the academic world. He completed his second postdoctoral fellowship much more satisfactorily at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, Germany. There, he began to study protein synthesis and ribosomes, which he continues to do today.
He returned to the Czech Republic in 2018 and founded his own group at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the University of Chemistry and Technology, which uses computer simulations to study large biomolecules. He is a member of the Czech Science Foundation panel and editor of the journal Communications Biology. In addition, he volunteers for the Czexpats in Science initiative, which brings together scientists with international experience. In his private life, Michal devotes himself to his three children, loves forests, coffee, the world of Harry Potter, and does not eat tomatoes.
As a mentor, he would like to share his experience, support mentees in their career steps, and help them step out of their comfort zone. He himself would like to broaden his horizons and expose himself to new ideas.

O mně
Martin strávil svá studia na ČVUT, kde získal titul Ing v oblasti Biomedicíny. Jeho vášeň pro diskutování velkých myšlenek v týmech složených ze zajímavých lidí se zrodila v Irsku, když během studií vycestoval na letní školu do Dublinu. Právě v takové společnosti, kde se setkávají různé expertízy i životní zkušenosti, lze díky této pestrosti schopností uvádět do pohybu velké a odvážné projekty. Smysl pro hledání talentovaných inovátorů, jejichž myšlenky by neměly zůstat v šuplíku mu vydržel dodnes, a do mentoringu nastoupil mimo jiné právě s chutí pomoci tyto nápady dotáhnout z laboratoře až na trh.
Po studiích nastoupil Martin do firmy National Instruments, kde se velmi brzy vypracoval z pozice Team leadera na Staff application Ingeneera. Kromě vedení týmu se již v tomto zaměstnání intenzivně věnoval tréningům, coachingům i náboru zaměstnanců.
V současné chvíli pracuje ve firmě Dukane na pozici Technického prodejce pro biomedicínské aplikace po Evropě. Kromě své profese věnuje čas výchově tří dětí, lezení po horách, dílně a včelám.
Do mentoringu nastupuje s cílem pomoci současným studentům zorientovat se ve studiu a na pracovním trhu. „Baví mě mladí lidé a jejich nápady, energie a odlišný pohled na věc. Sám bych při studiu ocenil podobný kontakt a cítím, že setkání se mnou by mohlo pro některé studenty dávat smysl.“

Filip začínal studiem procesního inženýrství a informatiky na VŠCHT, po roce studia u nás se dostal na univerzitu Bates College ve státě Maine, a rok strávil na TUM v Mnichově. Na magisterské studium byl přijat na sedm univerzit ze skupiny Ivy League, z nichž si nakonec vybral obor Computational Science na Harvardu. „Ta samotná škola podle mě není těžší než VŠCHT, ale člověk tam potká vysokou koncentraci fascinujících lidí z celého světa, a to byl opravdu zážitek.“
Profesní zkušenosti nasbíral v několika firmách, začínal v poradenství nemocničních přístrojů, je spolu-zakladatelem platformy Checkmate Diabetes, analytické společnosti pro komerční nemovitosti DeepRE. Dnes je na pozici senior datového vědce ve finanční společnosti čítající přes 60 000 zaměstnanců. Zde se zabývá výzkumem doporučovacích systémů a doručováním modelů do produkce. V rámci firmy funguje jako mentor pro začínající datové analytiky. Filip se také v současnosti zabývá budováním digitálního trhu pro investiční hypotéky do amerických nemovitostí (www.corelant.com).
Baví ho vytvářet produkty, které mají na lidi dopad a potenciál ve světě něco změnit. „Já mám rád věci, které jdou spíše do šířky než do hloubky. Rád pracuji s lidmi, moje filozofie je taková, že budu zpočátku dělat všechno abych se naučil ty principy a jak to funguje a následně budu najímat lidi, kteří část práce převezmou po mně.“ Další motivací k zapojení se do mentoringového programu je chuť dávat zpátky. Rád by se jednou stal filantropem.

Pavel je absolventem VŠCHT Praha, kde se v rámci organické technologie věnoval oblasti katalýzy. Po dokončení doktorského studia nastoupil na PostDoc pozici na ETH v Curychu, čímž odstartoval několikaletou zahraniční kariéru. Ze Švýcarska má kromě vědecké práce na ETH zkušenosti ze soukromého sektoru, z firmy Solvias. Klíčovou zkušeností pro něj bylo šest let strávených ve firmě Süd-Chemie v Německu, kde se vypracoval na pozici vedoucího prodeje a business-developmentu zákaznických katalyzátorů. „Byla to velmi důležitá zkušenost, zaprvé jsem asi tři roky intenzivně cestoval a za druhé jsem měl možnost projít procesem výroby katalyzátoru od začátku, od různých studií proveditelnosti, ověření funkčnosti technologie, přes postupné zvětšování měřítka, až do komerční výroby.“
„V zahraničí jsem nasbíral spoustu zkušeností, musel jsem se často složitými situacemi prokousat sám. Například nebylo vůbec lehké si ve Švýcarsku najít práci, napsal jsem určitě 200 žádostí, v Německu jsem zase nějakou dobu byl zapsán na pracovním úřadě.“ Po patnácti letech v zahraničí se Pavel rozhodl vrátit do ČR a zkusit podnikat. Ještě během svého působení Švýcarsku, spoluzaložil firmu RANIDO. Impulsem k tomu bylo nalezení způsobu, jak regenerovat Raney-nickel katalyzátor. Nápad se i přes jeho úspěšné otestování však nedařilo komercializovat, a tak od činnosti upustili. O pár let později se však již existující firma stala pro Pavla dobrým odrazovým můstkem do začátku nového podnikání. V současnosti pracuje jako výkonný ředitel firmy RANIDO, která vyvíjí a vyrábí zákaznické katalyzátory.
„Myslím si, že v dnešní době, kdy jsme opravdu zahlceni informacemi, je velmi důležité hledat, které z nich dávají smysl, jestli jsou to ty správné. Jednoduše – hledat pravdu. A to i v té komerční sféře, kde se nějaká firma může navenek tvářit velmi atraktivně, ale člověk si musí ověřit, jak doopravdy funguje i z ekonomického pohledu. To může být dost složité a je to něco, v čem se já sám v současnosti učím.“ Pavlovou motivací k zapojení se do mentoringu je hlavně touha setkat se se zajímavými lidmi, zjistit, jak to dnes vypadá mezi studenty, jak přemýšlí, o co se zajímají a jaké mají představy o životě.

O mně
Už od mládí jsem se věnoval letectví. Nejdříve jsem začínal historií, pak začínaly konstrukce až do novodobých trendů, které můžeme v dnešní době vidět nejenom v letectví. Po skončení vysoké školy, jsem začal pracovat ve společnosti GE Aviation Czech v Praze, kde jsem pracoval jako inženýr v termodynamickém oddělení. Byl jsem součástí aktivit, které souvisely s návrhem, zkoušením a analyzováním motorů.
Paralelně jsem dálkově studoval doktorské studium na Strojní fakultě ČVUT v Praze se zaměřením na pohony letadel. Aktuálně pracuji ve společnosti Honeywell, kde se zabýváme novými pohonnými systémy letadel. Zároveň se i zabýváme pomocnými energetickými jednotkami.
Do programu Mentoring bych se chtěl zapojit, protože jsem svou pracovní éru začínal jako mentee na ČVUT. Rád bych tak umožnil mladým lidem lépe se zapojit do pracovního života ještě s pomocí univerzity. Stejně tak v programu mentoring vidím pro sebe skvělou možnost, jak být v kontaktu se studenty a pochopit tak lépe nastávající generaci. V programu mentoring vidím dobrou příležitost pro celou společnost díky konstruktivní diskuzi.

Kristýna se chemii věnuje již od střední školy, kdy jezdila na Běstvinu a účastnila se chemických olympiád a kroužků. V posledním ročníku na střední škole a během studia na VŠCHT pracovala v laboratoři na Ústavu fyzikální chemie Jaroslava Heyrovského AV ČR. Doktorské studium absolvovala na švýcarském výzkumném EMPA institutu, vyvíjela během něj novou metodu isotopické analýzy oxidu dusného laserovou spektroskopií a její aplikace. Strávila také tři měsíce na výzkumné stáži na Tokyo Institute of Technology v Japonsku, který byl podpořen grantem od Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS).
Poté se v rámci postdoc pozice na ETH Zurich věnovala dále isotopické analýze oxidu dusného, tematicky se pohybovala na pomezí analytické chemie a chemie životního prostředí. V roce 2021 si Kristýna podala žádost o švýcarský národní grant (SNF postdoc mobility) na dva roky do USA, který jí byl schválen. V roce 2022 tak pracovala v Thermo Fisher Scientific v Brémách na vývoji metody pro isotopickou analýzu oxyaniontů za využití Orbitrap hmotnostní spektrometrie, poté v tomto tématu pokračovala po dva roky na CU Boulder v rámci uděleného postdockého grantu.
Od června 2024 je Kristýna assistant professor na Ústavu analytické chemie na VŠCHT Praha, kde se věnuje analýze prvkového složení za využití hmotnostní spektrometrie s indukčně vázaným plazmatem (ICP-MS), výuce a vedení studentů.
„Já si myslím, že pokud se student chce někam dostat, tak mentora potřebuje. Je důležité mít možnost se zeptat a slyšet názor někoho, kdo si prošel tím samým, co řeším. Já jsem tu možnost neměla a cítím, že mi to chybělo.“ Kristýnu také k zapojení do mentoringu motivují zkušenosti s obtížemi v oblasti duševního zdraví při studiu a možnost v této oblasti pomoci někomu, kdo si prochází něčím podobným, nebo pomoci takovým obtížím včas předejít.
