MARTIN STREJC

Role: Researcher

Area: Physical Chemistry with a focus on nuclear research

Employer: ÚJV Řež, a. s.

What can I help my mentee with?

  • insight and transfer of experience from scientific research to practice
  • gain contacts in the field
  • prepare for the selection procedure from the perspective of both the candidate and the employer (in the Czech Republic and abroad)

After his studies at UCT Prague with a focus on physical chemistry, Martin joined ÚJV Řež, a. s., where he works as a scientific researcher and leads assigned projects. He either chooses the focus of the project himself or, in the case of commercial orders, implements them according to the client's wishes. He is in charge of solving the assignment itself, as well as the administration related to it, or managing other team members. He also looks for new scientific challenges and opportunities for collaboration. The projects, which last between 3 and 4 years, are carried out nationally and internationally.

Even his free time is partly connected with chemistry, as he cooperates with the Communication Department of the UCT Prague to popularize science and promote the university's activities, for example, he participates in the organization of the Gaudeamus Fair.

Through his role as a mentor, he wants to give students an insight into the work in the field and provide them with quality and relevant practical experience or contacts. In general, he sees it as important to support students on their journey and increase their competitiveness in the Czech Republic and abroad.  He says: "Today's students and graduates have a great advantage in having free access to the labour market in all EU countries. I would like to help them make the most of this benefit."
