DENISA LIZOŇOVÁ
Role: PostDoc Area: Chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals Employer: UCT Prague What can I help my mentee with?
|
Denisa has been working in the field of pharmaceuticals since the beginning of her studies at UCT Prague. She completed part of her PhD studies in Drugs and Biomaterials at Imperial College London. Her research in the field of targeted drug delivery involves collaboration with the Czech Academy of Sciences and the company Zentiva. She is a member of the Chobotix research group where she is working in the area of nanoparticles and nanotherapeutics primarily for the treatment of cancer.
A crucial part of her work is the education of young scientists. Denisa has worked with a total of fifteen MSc and BSc students, who she led to successful graduation. Working with people and teaching science is fulfilling for her. She enjoys showing her students how to "use your brain in everything you do. It’s possible to get a degree in the same way as if you followed a recipe and baked a cake. But it's nothing I pride myself on." Denisa tries to guide all of her students to be able to work creatively and innovatively and to be independent scientific individuals. However, she believes these principles can be applied outside of the academic sphere as well. She enjoys helping students learn how to present their work and themselves and how to articulate their ideas clearly. Another area of interest which Denisa is happy to help her mentees with is how to effectively organize one’s time so that in addition to studying and working, one also has time for oneself and one’s interests.
Denisa is one of the founders of one of the largest student associations UNI-ART, a singer in the popular university band, Band4Students, and an avid player of sports.
