What can I help my mentee with?
|
Filip started by studying process engineering and computer science at UCT Prague. After a year, he attended Bates College in Maine, USA, and he also spent a year at TUM in Munich. For his master’s degree, he was accepted to seven Ivy League universities, ultimately choosing the Computational Science program at Harvard. "Studying there is not harder than it was at UCT, but the difference is that you get to meet a lot of fascinating people from all over the world, and that was really an experience."
He has gained professional experience at several companies, starting out in hospital device consulting, then co-founding the Checkmate Diabetes platform, and the commercial real estate analytics company DeepREa. Today, he is a senior data scientist at a financial services company with over 60,000 employees. He researches recommender systems and delivers models to production. Within the company, he serves as a mentor for aspiring data analysts. Filip is also currently building a digital marketplace for investment mortgages in US real estate (www.corelant.com)
He enjoys creating products that impact people and have the potential to make a difference in the world. "I like things that go wide rather than deep. I like working with people, and my philosophy is that at first I'll try to do everything myself to learn the principles and understand how it works, and then I'll hire people to take over some of the work from me." Another motivation for joining a mentoring program is the desire to give back. Filip would like to become a philanthropist one day.
