JAKUB ROSÁK

Role: Business Development&Customer Care manager

Aera: Energy

Employer: Primagas, Linde, Becherovka

What can I help my mentee with?

  • transition from the role of specialist to the role of team leader
  • business and marketing
  • team leadership
  • gain an insight into the operations of small businesses and corporations

Since childhood, Jakub has been drawn to creative activities and has enjoyed music and literature. However, he wanted to get an education in a technical field, so he applied for studying at the UCT. After finishing his bachelor's studies in Chemical Engineering, he knew that although he loved chemistry on paper, he did not see his future in the laboratory. Therefore, he chose an economics-oriented field for further studies, and during his studies he started working at the marketing department of the large chemical company, Linde. This experience mainly gave him an insight into a large international corporation. "You learn a lot of different things at school, but often you don't really have a clear idea of who is responsible for what in the company and how it works." Another work experience was a year-long trainee programme in Becherovka, where he was tasked with analysing sales data for the sales department.

After graduating, he started working in the company Primagas, where he still works today. At the beginning he was in charge of the complete marketing agenda of the company, but gradually he started to add sales projects to it, and in recent years he leads a team of nine people. Currently, for example, Jakub is in charge of the contract through which almost the entire volume of LNG in the Czech Republic is traded. Three and a half years of working in a smaller company allowed him to try out a large number of activities and gain a broader perspective.

"I would like to motivate students to start as soon as possible: write to a few companies you like, go to a few interviews, and be active. I think that's most beneficial because you get to look inside, you get to know the people." He also believes that it is good to differentiate yourself when looking for a job by having an interesting hobby or activity outside of school. Jakub has been singing and playing guitar in a big-beat band for eight years, was a dramaturg in the cultural student association UNI-ART throughout his studies, and in his spare time he is a pilgrim.  Through mentoring, he wants to meet students who are studying energetics, fuels or gas chemistry as part of their studies and get to know (perhaps in Carbon) what's new in research in this area.
