Registration Guidelines

Events and services of the Counselling and Career Centre of the UCT Prague

  • Any interested person ( an applicant, student, graduate or employee) can register for a CCC event/service on the selected date and time via the registration system, or by e-mail or other offered method (depending on the selected event/service)

  • After registration, the place at the event/service is reserved for the participant and the CCC is counting on their participation.

  • The registration fot an event/service can be independently cancelled in the same way as the registration (i.e. in the registration system, by e-mail or otherwise). Especially for events/services bookable via the login system, please use the system again for possible cancellation, e-mail only in extreme cases (e-mail communication gets stuck easily).

  • Unless otherwise stated (in the registration system), you must cancel the registration at least 24 hours before the scheduled time.

  • For late cancellation, or even absence without canceling, we will issue a "warning".

  • After two warnings have been issued, i.e. on the third late or unexcused absence (in all CCC events/services) we issue a "stop notice" on all of the CCC development events/services (lectures, courses and workshops, career counseling, mentoring). For CCC counselling events/services (psychological counselling, services for SSN students) cancellations will be dealt with on an individual basis.

  • Warnings and stop notices are valid for one academic year.

Why?

We offer events and services free of charge. They are administratively, financially and staff-intensive to organize. If you sign up for an event/service and end up not using it (with or without a late apology), you are unnecessarily draining our capacity and taking up space for someone who would like to use it to its full potential. Last but not least, proper scheduling and a proper early excuse, if any, is the basic equipment of an educated person and an indispensable skill for life.

Studying and time spent at university is full of new experiences, but often also challenges and smaller or bigger problems. At the CCC, we can help you with them and offer the services of a variety of experts or experienced colleagues and classmates.

During counselling sessions (psychologicalsocio-legalcareer), you can deal with questions about your studies, your future direction, and difficulties that are preventing you from studying, whether it be psychological problems, legal disputes or your social security. Senior colleagues known as Tutors will also be able to advise you on your studies. Once registered, students with specific needs can benefit from compensation and study support that takes into account their medical condition.

You can also make use of the thematic e-learning course Survival Kit, which covers issues of motivation, planning, effective learning, as well as relationships and time management on social media. If you prefer discussion to self-study, join one of the support groups where, under the guidance of an experienced lecturer, you and your classmates will discuss your difficulties and questions and work together to find the best solution.

Do you need help with your studies? Tutoring is there for anyone who wants to catch up on their subjects or, on the contrary, offer their knowledge to others.

If you don't know which service to use, contact the CCC and we will work out a suitable course of action together.

We are committed to being your helping hand

UCT Prague places great demands on its students, which it undertakes to balance with support services through its Counselling and Career Centre (CCC). The school profiles its graduates as versatile problem solvers or innovators who, thanks to their expertise, can become exceptional members of work teams. It also emphasizes holistic development in personal issues including stress management and finding psychological well-being.

The CCC aims to act as a service, support and innovation body offering care, development, and support to students. It creates a liaison between students and school administrators by seeking to understand each other's motivations, needs and barriers. It seeks to develop students' potential while minimizing the negative effects of academic demands.

All projects and the running of the Centre are handled by the CCC team.

We follow ethical principles

All staff of the Counselling and Career Centre are bound by confidentiality and are governed by the Code of Ethics for University Counsellors.

Lectures, participation at the job fair, job opportunities

UCT Prague has long been cooperating with various companies and employers from the chemical-technological industry to provide students with insight into the labour market and offer adequate opportunities for further development.

In cooperation with companies, we organise lectures, workshops and other seminars at the school, which introduce students to individual work sectors or research topics, often in a practical way. We advertise job offers, part-time jobs, and internships. Last but not least, every year we organise the Job Fair, where employers have the opportunity to present their company and get in touch with our students.

The Counselling and Career Centre also partners with employers and helps companies to build brand awareness among our students. We also organize workshops and training sessions for employers, which provide insight into the student world and younger generations' way of thinking about the world of work. We also offer qualitative and quantitative surveys, based on which companies can make strategic decisions about their approach to their own brand and students.

  • Want to expand your brand awareness?
  • Not sure why students aren't interested in your company?
  • Do you have a different problem or idea about how to work with us?

The transition to university

Moving from secondary school to university is a big change that brings you a lot of new opportunities, but also a lot of responsibility. You get freedom in how to organise your time and how much to spend on your studies. On the other hand, you have to keep in mind that school is sometimes challenging and can present you with difficult obstacles.

So be responsible in your approach to your studies but remember that school results are not everything. Take an interest in the people and opportunities around you, network and get involved in other activities. Create a balance that will fulfil you, develop you, and most importantly, entertain you.

Survival Kit for freshmen

Attend lectures from the Survival Kit series that we have prepared especially for first year students. You'll learn how to manage university, how to study and work effectively with time, when to relax, and how to get through your first exams. You'll find out everything you need for the transition to university – including the tricks that will save you while studying.

Ask questions and get advice

The first weeks will be challenging, but you will soon get used to everything. You will have your study group tutor or the Tutors Society at your disposition - senior students who will be happy to help you with questions about your studies, tutoring, or other school-related issues. For questions related to the organisation of your studies and the schedule, you can contact your study officer who is available at the study department during office hours.

Help with studying

If you have a problem with a subject, check out the tutor database and get help in time.
UCT Prague also offers opportunities for students who have difficulty studying due to health reasons (dyslexia, etc.). Simply register as a student with special needs and the CCC will help you study in an adapted way.

All the information in one place

Essential information about the beginning of your studies, how the university works etc. can be found on the main UCT Prague webpage.

We've compiled all the tips, hints and tricks for your first steps at UCT Prague in the Freshmen's Guide. Information you need about dormitories can be found in the Housing handbook.

Studies and life outside school

You are studying and school takes up a significant portion of your time. Spend enough time on it to complete your studies successfully but remember to include other activities as well. Go to lectures and societies, find part-time work or an internship and try anything you might enjoy. Develop yourself, find your direction and meet new people. This will help you broaden your horizons during your Bachelor's studies, and then you can start to focus on specific fields and goals during your Master's studies.

Study guidance and scholarship assistance

If a subject is a problem for you, visit the tutor database at the Tutors page and get help in time. UCT Prague also offers opportunities for students who have difficulty in studying due to health reasons (dyslexia, etc.). All you have to do is register as a student with special needs and the CCC will help tailor your studies to you.

If you are facing a difficult personal situation complicating your studies or you don't know which direction to take at school and in your career, take advantage of counselling services. The CCC can provide you with a psychologistcareer counsellor or socio-legal help.

Get involved in extracurricular activities

You can get involved in a number of student societies that focus on everything from sports, culture, gaming, to event organisation. You can also get involved in the Academic Senate and have a say in the school's affairs.

Sign up for the mentoring programme to find out more about working in the field you're interested in. The school will connect you with a mentor who will show you what their job entails and help you decide on your next career path. They will give you experience and contacts that are guaranteed to come in handy.

The CCC regularly organizes  courses and workshops to help you improve your practical skills. External experts focus on topics such as critical thinking, effective communication and financial literacy. In addition, a number of workshops offer the possibility of awarding a certificate, which may prove useful when you apply for a job.

Work experience and job opportunities

Development within part-time jobs or internships can also help you with your future direction. In cooperation with chemical technology companies, UCT Prague provides internship programmes or part-time work that allows you to get a glimpse into the industry and try out how a working team operates.

At the latest in Year 3, visit the school Chem-iK Job Fair and find out what opportunities the job market offers. The sooner you start looking at job offers, attending lectures with practitioners, reading interviews and getting to know people in the field, the easier it will be to find the right career path. Observe what's going on around you, evolve and sooner or later you will find whatever fulfils you.

All the information in one place

Essential information concerning your studies, study regulations and administration etc. can be found on the main UCT Prague webpage.

We've compiled everything you might need during your studies in the Bachelor Studies Guide. How to choose a topic for your bachelor's thesis, how to pass the state exams, but also what to do outside of school.

In the Master Studies Guide (only in CZ for now) we look at school commitments, but also what comes afterwards, such as finding your first job.

Information you need about dormitories can be found in the Housing handbook.

In the e-learning course Survival Kit, you will find articles, podcasts, videos and other inspiration on topics such as well-being, lifestyle and relationships.

Graduation is mainly associated with writing a good final thesis and the successful completion of state examinations. But beyond that, you also have to decide where to go next. There are plenty of options, so it's a good idea to explore all of them carefully – do you want to continue your studies or start a job in the industry? Which position is best for you?

How to write a thesis

On the school Intranet, you will find (after logging in) basic information on writing theses - a sample document, tips on writing and citing, how to print and submit the thesis, etc.

The National Library of Technology (NTK) offers you free participation in courses, workshops and personal consultations that can help you a lot with writing your thesis. You will learn how to structure your text, where to find expert sources, and how to cite them. Other useful lectures are also organized by the Tutors Association.

Final graduation

Graduation is the final ceremony that officially concludes your studies. Together with your classmates, after completing state exams and defending your final thesis, you will take the solemn oath and receive your diploma. The ceremony has a specific programme and dress code, which you will learn in due time (see the brochure Graduation and Alumni for basic information).

Find a job you enjoy

If the time has come to find a job after school but you're still not sure which direction to take, take advantage of the free career counselling services. Expert counsellors can help you decide where to develop further and what kind of work would be best for you. They can also advise you on your CV or cover letter. In addition, you can use the tips in the Personal Brand, CV, Cover Letter handbook (in CZ only for now).

On its website, the CCC publishes job offers that are suitable for graduates of UCT Prague.
